"Today, June 7th, news has broke that the legendary hip hop artist Lauryn Hill is facing up to one year in jail due to unpaid taxes that amount to over $1.6 million. According to U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman, she is facing up to one year for failing to pay her taxes for three full years from 2005, 2006, and 2007.
Lauryn's court date is set for June 29th to address the issue. If convicted of the three charges set against her for missing 3 years worth of tax payments, she could face a maximum penalty of one year in a prison cell, and she will also have to pay a hefty $100,000 fine.
First we don't see Lauren Hill for years at a time, then when she starts to resurface she is facing legal craziness. She can't seem to get a break since her knock- out solo project years ago that we all still are fans of. I just had a conversation with a friend last week, discussing what we think could have gone wrong with Lauren. Is it the roots, drugs, men, love, or just pure disgust with the celebrity life-style that caused her sudden retreat; and lack of music production the past few years. Who knows.. I really hope it works out.
